When Mercedes-Benz produced this model, it turned out to be a huge success. Up to November 1942, no less than 91,048 of the model were built. This made it the star brand’s most successful passenger car up to that date. In the immediate post-war period up to 1953, a further 49,367 of the model were built and, if the 170 D and 170 Db diesel-powered models are included, that total was 83,190.
